Yayasan PETRONAS Distributes Food Items in Johor under Memacu Kehidupan: Hari Raya Aidilfitri Programme

JOHOR BHARU, 14 April 2023 – Yayasan PETRONAS is distributing 250 packages of food items to beneficiaries here under its “Memacu Kehidupan: Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023” programme.  The programme, supported by the Social Welfare Department of Malaysia, provides basic food necessities and festive food supplies such as glutinous rice, coconut milk, rendang paste and peanut sauce to families.  The handing over of the Memacu Kehidupan items took place today at the Asrama Akhla Kempas, Johor Bharu and was officiated by Puan Aiman Athirah Sabu, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM).  Additionally, this year’s distribution includes PETRONAS gift cards from PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd for the beneficiaries to purchase fuel or Kedai Mesra items at PETRONAS stations. The Memacu Kehidupan: Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023 programme goes along with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living’s Bakul Rahmah initiative.  Head of Group Strategic Communications, PETRONAS, Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz said: “The festive season is a time for everyone to gather with their loved ones. Yayasan PETRONAS is committed to doing its part to usher in some festive cheer for individuals and families,” “The Memacu Kehidupan programme is designed to provide not just food, but to also foster a sense of community and support during the festive season,” Anita added. Distribution under the programme started in Kedah this year, with Yayasan PETRONAS contributing to 4,900 families in 13 states and two federal territories. Yayasan PETRONAS Uplifts Communities with Memacu Kehidupan: Hari Raya Aidilfitri Programme

SIK, 28 MARCH 2023 – Yayasan PETRONAS recently announced the gradual rollout of its “Memacu Kehidupan: Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023 Programme” in support of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living’s (KPDN) Bakul Rahmah Initiative.  The programme, which will be implemented in stages is aimed at providing food assistance to those in need so they can celebrate the upcoming festive season with joy. Supported by PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd (PDB) and Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM), Memacu Kehidupan: Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023 will provide basic food necessities and festive food supplies such as glutinous rice, coconut milk, rendang paste and peanut sauce. This year’s distribution also includes PETRONAS gift cards for beneficiaries to purchase fuel and Kedai Mesra items at PETRONAS stations. Representatives from PETRONAS, Yayasan PETRONAS and JKM visited the identified beneficiaries at their homes to distribute the items during the initial programme rollout in Kedah In addition, a special handover ceremony was held at the As-Salam Mosque in Sik and the event was graced by the Menteri Besar of Kedah, Dato’ Seri Haji Muhammad Sanusi. Yayasan PETRONAS Chief Executive Officer Shariah Nelly Francis said, “Through the Memacu Kehidupan initiative, Yayasan PETRONAS extends necessities aimed at improving the well-being of the communities. Yayasan PETRONAS Contributes School Supplies to 21,000 Students Across The Nation

KUALA LUMPUR, 22 MARCH 2023 – Yayasan PETRONAS today rolls out its Powering Knowledge: Back to School Programme (BTS 2023), contributing school supplies and school uniforms to 21,000 lower primary and lower secondary school students from low-income households across Malaysia, in line with the start of the 2023 academic year. Yayasan PETRONAS CEO Shariah Nelly Francis said: “Yayasan PETRONAS is committed to the academic success of students as we understand the importance for students to be equipped with the classroom essentials to not only help them stay in school, but to thrive in their respective classrooms as well.”  “By providing students with these essential school supplies through BTS 2023, we can help set them up for success and ensure that they are well-equipped to face the challenges of the new school term,” she said at the launch of BTS 2023 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas Jalan Batu that was officiated by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. Students will each receive vouchers for one set of school uniform, a pair of black shoes, socks and sports attire. In addition, a classroom kit comprising a school bag, color pencils, stationery set will be distributed to lower primary school students, while the classroom kits to secondary school students will also include scientific calculator.  Powering Knowledge: Back to School Programme began over 10 years ago as part of PETRONAS’ goal of enabling students from low-income families to continuously participate in the education process and finish school, while also helping to reduce the financial burden of their parents. Yayasan PETRONAS Provides Flood Relief Assistance to Johor and Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR, 7 MARCH 2023 – Yayasan PETRONAS, via its Uplifting Lives initiative, is contributing over 1,000 aid packages to families displaced by flood that hit Johor and Sarawak recently.  The items, comprising hygiene kits, dry food items, blankets and drinking water, are being distributed together with Jabatan Kebajikan Malaysia between 6 and 8 March to 900 families in Kota Tinggi, Kluang, Batu Pahat, Tangkak, Segamat and Muar, and to 200 families in Sarikei and Sri Aman.  “We cannot imagine the challenges that communities and families are going through amid such difficult time. Our hope is that this aid can lift the spirits of fellow Malaysians. Yayasan PETRONAS will continue to extend our help and care to communities that have been severely affected by recent floods,” Yayasan PETRONAS chief executive officer Shariah Nelly Francis said.  Earlier in December 2022, Yayasan PETRONAS has contributed 5,000 aid packages to families affected by the flood in Kedah, Perak, Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan and Sabah. A further 700 aid packages were distributed in February this year to flood victims residing in Johor and Sabah.  Overall, Yayasan PETRONAS has contributed close to 7,000 aid packages to affected 30 affected districts in 11 states since December 2022. Powering Knowledge with Program Duta Guru

Stepping Up Teachers’ Training to Nurture Future Malaysian Engineers, Scientists Kota Kinabalu, 4 March 2023 – Over 70 secondary school teachers from Sabah and Sarawak took part in a three-day Program Duta Guru regional training here, organised by Yayasan PETRONAS, which aims to strengthen the capabilities of educators in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) nationwide. The training, which started on Thursday, culminated today with an intensive bootcamp utilising the Engineering Design Process (EDP) methodology, in which the teachers participated in simulations that required them to come up with an innovation project to address students’, schools’ or community pain points. “Through EDP, these teachers undergo brainstorming, identifying problem statements as well as collaborating to develop learning prototypes. The EDP is a required step for the participating teachers to design and complete a STEM Innovation Module,” said Yayasan PETRONAS CEO Shariah Nelly Francis at the PDG Cohort 3 Regional Training’s closing ceremony.   “The PDG regional training, specifically the EDP bootcamp today, ensures our future Duta Guru possess the knowledge and resources required to teach STEM subjects effectively.  “It is also a key factor in ensuring that these educators can bring this experience to their students, schools and communities, and cultivate in-demand skills in a future that will significantly be powered by science and technology,” she added.  Powering Knowledge through PDG – a nationwide industry-linked programme to strengthen the capabilities of 4,500 STEM teachers serving schools with a majority of B40 students by 2030 – is a collaboration between Yayasan PETRONAS and the Ministry of Education, through the Education Policy Planning and Research Division. Since PDG’s launch in 2019, more than 250 teachers have been trained and upskilled in the two-year development programme.  About Program Duta Guru“Powering Knowledge” – Program Duta Guru, Yayasan PETRONAS’ signature education programme, is a joint initiative between Yayasan PETRONAS and Ministry of Education Malaysia through the Education Policy Planning and Research Division as well as Teach For Malaysia and Petrosains as implementation partners. It started in 2019 and aims to upskill 4,500 teachers nationwide in higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) to serve as role models in the delivery of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects to students. Yayasan PETRONAS Contributes Home Medical Equipment, Festive Food Supplies to Underprivileged Families and Welfare Homes

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 January 2023 – Yayasan PETRONAS handed over its Sentuhan Kasih Home Ward contribution through a symbolic handover ceremony in collaboration with Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) and Jabatan Perkhidmatan Kebajikan Am Sabah (JPKAS) held at Rumah Ehsan, Kuala Kubu Bharu.  Under the programme, a total of 609 hospital beds, 44 oxygen concentrators and 312 wheelchairs were distributed in stages to underprivileged families and welfare homes nationwide with support from PETRONAS’ regional offices. The symbolic handover ceremony was attended by JKM Director-General, Datuk Shaharuddin Abu Sohot with representatives from JKM, PETRONAS and Yayasan PETRONAS. The event was also joined by residents of the welfare home. Yayasan PETRONAS CEO, Shariah Nelly Francis said, “We continue to expand this initiative from last year to help low-income families in providing care for their loved ones who require special care in the comfort of their own home, as well as extending our contribution to welfare homes that are in need of the equipment.” Yayasan PETRONAS also launched its Sentuhan Kasih Festive Programme in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year and has begun distributing essential food supplies and festive food hampers to over 2,000 B40 families nationwide. The contributions were also extended to four welfare homes under the Sentuhan Kasih Home programmes this year. In conjunction with major celebrations in Malaysia, Yayasan PETRONAS contributes items to underprivileged communities for their basic needs and well-being every year via its Sentuhan Kasih Festive programme while Sentuhan Kasih Homes is an extension to its yearly initiative. The Sentuhan Kasih Homes programme serves as a sustainable initiative that supports and funds welfare homes for a better living environment for its occupants whilst supporting them to be self-sustaining. Yayasan PETRONAS Donates Aid Packages to Families Affected by Floods

KUALA LUMPUR, 23 DECEMBER 2022 – Yayasan PETRONAS has donated 5,000 aid packages to families affected by the recent monsoonal floods in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare throughout the country through its Sentuhan Kasih Disaster Relief Programme.  The aid packages, which consist of daily necessities such as mineral water, towels, blankets, toiletries and food were channeled to temporary relief centres (PPS) established across the nation covering 19 districts in 10 states namely Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Sabah and Terengganu.  “We hope the distribution of these aid packages will ease the burden of families affected by the ongoing floods. There are over 17,300 families that have been transferred to temporary relief centres and the numbers are expected to increase due to the continuous rainfall. The basic needs distributed in the aid packages are meant to come in handy and bring comfort to the families while they are placed in the temporary relief centres,” said Shariah Nelly Francis, Chief Executive Officer, Yayasan PETRONAS.   “Working closely with the Welfare Department (JKM) has also greatly helped us in facilitating the process of delivery and distribution of aid packages to flood victims in selected districts,” she added.  Yayasan PETRONAS’ Sentuhan Kasih Disaster Relief Programme is aligned with the PETRONAS Sustainability Agenda and the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals. Yayasan PETRONAS Brings Christmas Joy to 3,500 Deserving Families Nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR, 15 December 2022 – Yayasan PETRONAS has launched its annual, nationwide series of Christmas celebrations to usher in the year-end festive season by distributing food supplies and festive hampers to 3,500 deserving families from the B40 community via its Sentuhan Kasih Festive programme. All beneficiaries will be receiving essential food supplies which include rice, cooking oil, flour and festive hampers with an assortment of cookies and festive food items. The distribution efforts commenced on 2 December in Sarawak.  In the capital, several Social Welfare Centres, Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) and children’s homes were selected to receive distribution items from the Foundation.  Yayasan PETRONAS has teamed up with PETRONAS’ regional offices and the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) for the distribution in 12 states across Malaysia namely Johor, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Perak, Perlis, Sabah, Sarawak and Selangor. Yayasan PETRONAS Chief Executive Officer, Shariah Nelly Francis said, “Sentuhan Kasih Festive is done as we keep in mind the needs of the less fortunate families. We hope that this gesture will help to ease the burden of the beneficiaries and bring back the smiles and joy during this festive season.” The Sentuhan Kasih Festive programme is part of Yayasan PETRONAS’ community well-being and development focus area, initiated to coincide with every major celebration in Malaysia. Yayasan PETRONAS, UTP Team Up to Plant 550 Native Trees Under Sentuhan Alam Programme

SERI ISKANDAR, 17 November 2022 – Yayasan PETRONAS, in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) recently launched a tree planting programme at the university campus, under its Sentuhan Alam initiative. A total of 550 trees from various native species will be planted under this programme.  Yayasan PETRONAS Chief Executive Officer, Shariah Nelly Francis, together with UTP Vice Chancellor, Professor Ts. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib officiated the launch. Also present were UTP’s leadership team and students as well as an Orang Asli community from nearby Kampung Sungai Tonggang. According to Shariah Nelly Francis, “The tree planting programme is part of the Foundation’s proactive measures to tackle global warming while giving back to the surrounding communities. Under this collaboration, we target to plant over 500 trees in the next two years. It is also our hope that through this programme, we will be able to instill awareness at the grassroots and encourage youths to participate actively in climate actions.” The event also saw the symbolic planting of a native species called Hopea odorata, also known as Merawan Siput Jantan, by the guests of honour at the university’s campus.  Yayasan PETRONAS is extending its commitment to plant one million more trees nationwide by 2027, following a series of successful implementation of tree planting initiatives. Since 2020, the Foundation has planted over 60,000 native trees at 14 sites across 11 states throughout Malaysia, with more than an 85 per cent survival rate.Sentuhan Alam is in line with the 12th Malaysia Plan and supports the Greening of Malaysia with 100 million Trees Campaign by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA). Yayasan PETRONAS Delivers Festive Goodies to Over 2,000 Beneficiaries for Deepavali

KUALA LUMPUR, 20 October 2022 — In conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration, Yayasan PETRONAS has begun distributing festive food items and hampers to a total of 2,100 beneficiaries from B40 groups across nine states in Malaysia as part of its Sentuhan Kasih programme. The items were distributed to families in Johor, Kedah, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Penang, Perak, Perlis, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur from 12 October until 20 October 2022. Contributions included basic food items such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour, sardine, tea, and dhal beans along with Deepavali-themed food items such as briyani masala powder, kesari mix flour, ghee, curry powder as well as Murukku hampers, which are specially sourced from local micro businesses. Yayasan PETRONAS Chief Executive Officer, Shariah Nelly Francis said, “With the rising cost of living, we understand how difficult it can be for some families to purchase these food items. Additionally, the sourcing of food items from local micro businesses serves as our way of giving back to the community.
