PETRONAS staff journey into the deep forest of Imbak Canyon

Kuala Lumpur / Kota Kinabalu, 6 September 2019 – Thirty bikers from Kelab Sukan & Rekreasi PETRONAS (KSRP) ventured into Sabah’s interior recently for a five-day journey into the deep forest of Imbak Canyon Conservation Area (ICCA) from the heart of Kuala Lumpur, to raise awareness on the importance of forest conservation.

The bikers kicked-off their journey from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu on 29 August, before traversing together with their Sabahan counterparts through Tamparuli, Kundasang, Ranau, Telupid and Kampung Imbak, the gateway village to ICCA in Tongod, before proceeding further inland to ICCA.

At the flag-off in Kuala Lumpur, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Yayasan PETRONAS Lita Osman said: “We are thrilled that PETRONAS staff on this trip were intent on supporting the lives of underprivileged communities. The activities throughout the trip were designed to provide sustainable impact for the communities.”

She added that the group was also committed to spreading awareness on the importance of conservation as well as learning about the vital researches that is taking place at Imbak Canyon Studies Centre (ICSC). 

The KSRP team refurbished the canteen and the Rancangan Makanan Tambahan area at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Imbak. They also delivered a motivational talk to 30 school children and worked with Kampung Imbak homestay operators to promote their homestay programme and market their handicraft online. 

“For many of us, this was our maiden journey into ICCA – a Class 1 Forest Reserve. It was an exciting experience to be in the deep interior of Sabah. As we strengthen our bond with the local communities, we are humbled by the beautiful tapestry of humanity and biodiversity,” said lead biker Wan M Azmee Wan Mohammad.

Managing Director and CEO of PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd Dato’ Sri Syed Zainal Abidin said: “PETRONAS fuel and diesel allowed the cohort to execute their trip smoothly. There can be an unexpected turn of events when travelling in a group, and I’m glad they had the comfort and peace of mind as the fuel powered them to tackle the different terrains – dirt, tar and rubble.”

Meanwhile, CEO of PETRONAS Lubricants Marketing Malaysia Hardeep Singh said: “PETRONAS Sprinta delivers superior engine performance and a smoother drive whether on or off the road, making it a perfect for the usage of KSRP bikers.”

The bikers were accompanied by a support team in four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles. The bikes and 4WDs were fueled with PETRONAS Primax 95 with Pro-Drive and PETRONAS Dynamic Diesel Euro 5 with Pro-Drive. The convoy also stopped to refresh at the PETRONAS station in Kg Kilimu, Ranau, en-route to ICCA.

PETRONAS Primax 95 with Pro-Drive promises a smoother drive, responsive engine performance and enhanced fuel efficiency. The world’s first Dual Friction Modifier in the new fuel helps reduce friction by 20 per cent, as compared to previous single friction modifier, thus allowing engines to run smoother and be more responsive. The Double Detergent has boosted fuel’s cleaning agent to eliminate up to 99 per cent carbon deposits to ensure cleaner engine and better fuel efficiency.
